How ED medicines work
Sildenafil and tadalafil belong to a group of medicines called PDE5 inhibitors. They improve blood flow to the penis in response to arousal, making it easier to get and keep an erection. They do not cause an erection on their own.
Sildenafil works for about four hours and is taken shortly before sex. Tadalafil lasts up to 36 hours, and a low daily dose is also an option. Your provider will help you choose.

Common side effects include headache, flushing, stuffy nose, indigestion and, with tadalafil, back or muscle aches. Get emergency help for an erection lasting more than four hours, or for sudden loss of vision or hearing.
