What is thyroid hormone therapy?

Your thyroid makes hormones that set the pace of your metabolism. When it is underactive (hypothyroidism), you may feel tired, cold, foggy or low, gain weight easily or notice dry skin and hair.

Treatment replaces the missing hormone, usually with levothyroxine (T4) and sometimes with added liothyronine (T3). Your provider sets the dose from your blood tests and checks your levels again after each change.

Who it may be prescribed for

  • Adults diagnosed with hypothyroidism
  • People whose blood tests show a high TSH or low thyroid hormone
  • People already treated who want online follow-up

How it works

Get your treatment in three simple steps

  1. 01

    Answer a few health questions

Tell us about your health, medicines and goals in an online questionnaire that takes about ten minutes.

    A licensed provider reviews it

A U.S.-licensed provider in your state reviews your answers, usually within about 24 hours, and messages you if they need more.

    Your treatment ships to you

If treatment is right for you, a licensed pharmacy prepares it and ships it to your door with clear instructions.

Important safety information

Thyroid hormone should not be used to treat obesity or for weight loss. Too high a dose can cause a fast or irregular heartbeat, anxiety, trouble sleeping, heat intolerance and, over time, bone loss. Take it on an empty stomach, and keep calcium and iron supplements at least four hours apart from your dose. Tell your provider about heart disease and any other medicines you take.
